How to set a compose key to a specific key code?
How to assign compose key function to an arbitrary keyboard code in Ubuntu?
For an example: using xev I found out that my laptop yields a key code 151 when I press a fn key and I wish to use it as a compose character key.
Sample output from xev tool:
KeyRelease event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x4e00001,
root 0x1d3, subw 0x0, time 7833561, (-55,489), root:(2736,958),
state 0x10, keycode 151 (keysym 0x1008ff2b, XF86WakeUp), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False
Please note: This is not a duplicate question as already accepted answers: this, that and other are not covering how to assign a compose key to code beyond existing choices.
Currently, I'm using latest Ubuntu 18 with GNOME desktop on Lenovo ThinkPad E480 laptop but if you can please try to cover previous Ubuntu versions or other desktop environments.
P.S.
Why hardware manufactories of laptops and keyboards ignore history and forgot about compose key while Ubuntu and GNOME developing community hate us, compose character users, and keep hiding a compose key feature deeper and make it harder to use with each release?
