Macbook Air 4,1 Boot from USB

0

Thanks for reading. Recently, I decided to nuke my OSX partition in favor of Ubuntu. Yay! However, I cannot figure out how to boot from a usb if the hard drive should fail. Boo! It used to be a simple key combination: press and hold the option key. Of course, this doesn't work now. With all things OSX removed (I did a clean install from a USB [18.04]), I'm not sure how to do this if there is an emergency in the future. For example, I had to hard reboot last week and then needed to Fcsk disk. I was able to, but if that had failed, I wouldn't have been able to get anything running. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again!

The macbook air is a mid2011 if it helps.
