Installing problems on Gigabyte Aero 15

0

So I have the Gigabyte Aero 15 and I tried installing Ubuntu to it. The installation went fine, but if I open settings (from desktop GUI) the entire system just freezes except for the mouse. Same thing happens if I try to shut it down using desktop GUI.

I've tried to install it a few times now, changing from minimal/full version, adding 3rd party drivers and all that.

However, the weirdest thing is that it sometimes works (opening settings and everything else) but it still won't shutdown without holding the power button for 4 seconds.

Has anyone else had this problem before and how did you solve it?

Also would it help if I would install Ubuntu to a second M.2 SSD? Or is there another Linux distribution which I should try?

  • Seems to be drivers issue. Better to check in BIOS, if AHCI or IDE is selected. Perhaps it's time to try Linux Mint (I'd suggest Mate version).

  • @Ronald AHCI is selected, and the only thing I can switch it to is "Intel RST Premium". Should I switch?

  • No. Did you try to install another enviroment such Ubuntu Mate? Or at least, boot into live boot USB.

  • I haven't tried Ubuntu Mate, but I did try booting into live boot USB and everything was just frozen at the desktop (except for the cursor).

  • Well, seems that your laptop is getting glitches because of compatibility. If I would be in your foot, I will give a try Linux Mint. Mostly, one of the most stable distros based on Debian out there.
