  • What can I do if a repository/PPA I added does not have a Release file?

    4 answers

  • Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'xxx' doesn't support architecture 'i386'

    5 answers

I get errors when following this tutorial:
How to Install and Use Wine to Run Windows Applications on Linux | Linux.com

In step 6 it tells me to add a ppa of wine, which for some reason, doesn't have a release file.

I get this message:

W:Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'i386'
E:The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu bionic Release' does not have a Release file.

The two errors are unrelated. The error about Chrome can be ignored but should be corrected anyway. The error regarding the Wine PPA is because that PPA is for Ubuntu 16.04 and previous releases only, it doesn't work for 18.04. And you CAN install Wine directly, no PPA needed.

Also see Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'xxx' doesn't support architecture 'i386', though like @Gabriela said, it's unrelated.
