How to turn off laptop screen after boot

I'm running Ubuntu Server (CLI only) on a very old netbook as a home server for OpenVPN and SSH. This computer is not 24h running, i turn it on only when i'm not at home, i often do not login, just turn it on to start OpenVPN.
Everytime i turn the netbook on it shows me the login screen and the monitor do not go in standby mode even after hours.
I want to make Ubuntu auto-turnoff the screen some time after the login screen appears, so even without logging in.
I tried using setterm but it worked only the first time (don't know why) and i'm not sure if it works without user login.
