How do I retrieve email stocked in thunderbird from an account that was deleted from the remote server?

0

I have an email account that was deleted from the server that hosted it. Thunderbird used to collect the mail via imap.

Now although I can't access the mail directly anymore, it turns out that Thunderbird still remembers it somehow, and I can see that because when I run a search on a keyword, email from that account appears in the result.

I can't double-click on them, they won't open, but still I can read the text that surrounds my keyword in the mail that is supposedly deleted. Therefore, running new searches on keywords nearby in the mail allows me to access the whole contents of it, if I am desperate enough to spend so much time retrieving it.

Obviously this means that the mail is still stored in there, somewhere, but how can I restore it into a more convenient display?

I would be happy with a file that is stored somewhere in the .thunderbird folder, where the contents of the email appear although I doubt that there is such a thing.

First thing I would do is make a backup of that .thunderbord folder. I reckon TB has cached the mails somewhere in there and what you are seeing is the cache's content. Thus backup the folder before TB notices that the cache is outdated/useless/whatever and flushes it.
