Boot into Windows and turn fast start up off. Report says Windows still hibernated. Windows turns it back on with updates. So also make a Windows repair disk. Grub only boots working Windows, so if you do not notice Windows update, you may then not be able to boot Windows without Windows boot loader in MBR or repair disk. You have newer UEFI system. Be sure to boot Ubuntu live installer in BIOS mode and install grub to MBR as both Windows & Ubuntu are BIOS boot. Probably better to have both as UEFI as then you can directly boot Windows from UEFI when grub will not boot it.

  • Thanks a lot. But I am new to linux. Can you please guide me by step by step instructions to install grub to MBR? How to have UEFI system for both? Thanks again.

  • Turn off fast start up in Windows. askubuntu.com/questions/843153/… Make Windows repair/recovery flash drive. Do not skip this step). Windows 10 is not particularly dual boot friendly in BIOS mode, works better in newer UEFI boot mode. Then use Boot-Repair booted in BIOS boot mode, and install grub to MBR of sda. Should be default option, or use Boot-Repair's advanced options and choose Ubuntu install and sda. See Boot-Repair screens: sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair/home/Home

  • It not seeing Windows, did you turn fast start up off, or does Windows have other issues? Grub only boots working Windows, so you may need to temporarily reinstall Windows boot loader using your Windows repair disk that you made per previous comment. You have boot files in three partitions sda1, sda2 & sda3. Grub often copies them to main partition c:, as users delete Windows boot partition. Not sure is sda2 is recovery or boot or if sda2 is boot. Boot flag needs to be on Windows boot partition.
