  • Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears

  • My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it?

When I switch on my laptop, icons no longer appear on the screen. I just get the wallpaper. I'm not aware of having downloaded an Ubuntu update in the last few days. I'm sorry, I don't know exactly which version of Ubuntu I have installed at the moment.

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise. Thank you.

Thanks for your advice, Pomsky. Unfortunately, I've not been able to open Terminal. I've tried Ctrl + Alt + T, Alt + F2 and Win + T, but no luck. The Dash button isn't visible, there are no icons visible to select, just wallpaper.

Any ideas?

David

Please edit your question and copy&paste the output of the following command in Terminal (to determine your Ubuntu version): lsb_release -a. Also add outputs of the following commands: echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP and echo $XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP (to determine your desktop environment).
