Install VMware on Ubuntu 18.10 — Build environment error
I did the basic install, but when I run it, I get:
Build environment error! A required application is missing and modconfig cannot continue. xzCheck the log for more details.
What does that mean, and what should I do?
vmware

does this help askubuntu.com/questions/367248/… ... so the full install command will be ...sudo apt install virtualbox virtualbox-ext-pack virtualbox-qt
then to execute it open up Dash and type in virt and its icon will appear

By the way, can I know the right command for the full install of a program, besides learning how to do better searches on Askubuntu?

I do all of my searches using google not from inside any forum ... then from google search results scroll down until you see a stackexchange link like askubuntu.com or stackoverflow.com ... stackexchange has dozens of such sites each are the best forum for the given topic .... art of getting a good match is using simple search terms so if on ubuntu always mention ubuntu ... to find above link I searched using ...ubuntu install virtualbox
... from a ubuntu terminal there are tricks to discover which package to install ...dpkg -S virtualbox
is a start

Run the following commands before/after installing vmware:
sudo apt-get install gcc
sudo apt-get install make
sudo apt-get update
Let me know if you have any other errors we will solve it out.
Installinggcc
andmake
solved this exact error for me when installing VMware Workstation 15 on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS.
